UBAY RICE HARVEST IMPROVED THRU ADAPTIVE BALANCED FERTILIZATION STRATEGY

During today’s Harvest Festival in Brgy. Gabi, Ubay, Bohol, farmers of GBL Irrigators Association reaped an improved harvest of 5 to 6 metric tons per hectare, an impressive increase from previous average yield of 3.6 metric tons only.

This is a result of a 100-hectare Techno Demo Farm assisted by the DA-Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM), and irrigated by National Irrigation Administration through the Bayongan Irrigation System.

Through BSWM's Adaptive Balanced Fertilization Strategy, farmers learned to apply the right combination, amount, and timing of organic and inorganic fertilizers based on soil analysis, resulting in better soil health and reduced chemical dependence.

NIA-NOSO JOINS COASTAL CLEAN-UP IN CELEBRATION OF THE MONTH OF THE OCEAN

Demonstrating its commitment not only to irrigation development but also to environmental protection, the National Irrigation Administration – Negros Oriental Satellite Office (NOSO) proudly took part in a Coastal Clean-Up Drive held on May 7, 2025, at Sitio Campaclan, Brgy. Poblacion, Sibulan, Negros Oriental.

In coordination with the DENR-PENRO Negros Oriental and the LGU of Sibulan, the activity brought together volunteers to safeguard our marine ecosystem. A total of 20 NOSO employees actively joined the effort, collecting waste materials such as plastics, bottles, styrofoam, diapers, slippers, and other debris that pollute our coastal areas.

₱30M QUICK RESPONSE FUND RECEIVED FOR CANAL REPAIRS IN MABINI-CAYACAY SRIP, INAUGURATION SET THIS YEAR

A ₱30 million Quick Response Fund (QRF) has been released to support the immediate repair and rehabilitation of canal systems under the Mabini-Cayacay Small Reservoir Irrigation Project (SRIP), a major irrigation initiative of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Region VII.

The announcement was made by Regional Manager Engr. Antonio B. Gujeling during the 2nd General Assembly of the beneficiaries, the Mabini-Cayacay Irrigators Association, Inc., held at the Brgy. Abaca Covered Court in Mabini, Bohol.

The SRIP, set to be inaugurated within the year, will irrigate a Service Area of 530 hectares, benefiting 490 farmers in the municipality and neighboring barangays.

NIA RVII SIGNS MOA FOR LUBANG WATERSHED MANAGEMENT COUNCIL IN BOHOL

National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Acting Regional Manager, Engr. Antonio B. Gujeling, joined key officials and stakeholders in the ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) today, April 7, 2025, for the establishment of the Lubang Watershed Management Council held at the CPG Hall, 2nd Floor, New Capitol Building, Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

The event marked a significant step towards a collaborative and science-based approach to preserving and managing the Lubang Watershed, a vital resource that supports both agricultural lands irrigated by NIA and the water supply system of LGU Buenavista, Bohol.

NIA RVII REINFORCES FIRE SAFETY THROUGH TRAINING AND DRILLS

The NIA Region VII, in coordination with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), has conducted a series of Fire Prevention Re-orientation sessions and actual fire drills aimed at enhancing fire safety awareness and emergency preparedness among its personnel.

The training was carried out in three phases across different NIA offices and irrigation systems. The first session was held on March 19, 2025, at the Malinao Irrigation System (IS), Pilar, followed by a session on March 20, 2025, at Capayas, Bayongan, and Talibon IS Office. The final session was on March 28, 2025, at the NIA Region VII Regional Office.

NIA RVII WELCOMES NIA REGION X FOR AN IMMERSIVE EXCHANGE

A total of 92 employees from the National Irrigation Administration Region X (Northern Mindanao) embarked in a Social and Technological Experience Exchange Program (STEEP) on March 27-29, 2025 , gaining valuable insights into irrigation infrastructure and best practices of NIA Region VII (Central Visayas).

The itinerary featured visits to key irrigation facilities, beginning with Benliw Dam—renowned for its panoramic view—and Capayas Dam, both of which play significant roles in supporting farmers in Ubay, Bohol. The delegation then proceeded to Bayongan Dam in San Miguel, the largest dam in Bohol.
