In a concerted effort to enhance gender responsiveness in irrigation projects, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Region VII spearheaded a two-day Workshop on Making Gender and Development (GAD) Accomplishment Reports Using HGDG Box 16 and Box 17 for Project Implementation, Management, Monitoring, and Evaluation (PIMME) on February 25-26, 2025, at the NIA CVTC Function Hall.
The workshop, attended by the NIA R7 GAD Focal Point System, aimed to strengthen the participants' capacity to assess, document, and report the gender-related impacts of irrigation projects.
Engr. Camila A. Descallar, an expert in GAD mainstreaming, served as the resource speaker, providing in-depth discussions on the Harmonized Gender and Development Guidelines (HGDG), particularly the critical assessment tools found in Box 16 and Box 17.
Regional Manager Engr. Antonio B. Gujeling also graced the event, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to integrating gender perspectives an gender-inclusive development in irrigation projects.
Through hands-on exercises and discussions, participants learned how to systematically evaluate projects based on their gender inclusivity and properly document their contributions to gender and development. The workshop also emphasized the importance of compiling Means of Verification (MOVs) to substantiate project attributions and accurately compute the physical and financial aspects of GAD-related initiatives.
The initiative is expected to significantly improve the accuracy and effectiveness of GAD accomplishment reports, ensuring that NIA’s projects are not only compliant with national gender policies but also truly responsive to the needs of both men and women in the agricultural sector.
By equipping key personnel with the necessary skills to measure and report gender impacts, NIA Region VII continues to advance gender equality and inclusivity, reinforcing its role in fostering sustainable and equitable rural development.
