In a move to strengthen field operations and enhance irrigation service delivery, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Bohol-Cebu-Siquijor Irrigation Management Office (BCSIMO) received newly delivered heavy equipment from the NIA Central Office, formally blessed on June 12, 2025, at the Can-asujan Dam in Carcar City, Cebu.
The new fleet includes one (1) JCB Backhoe Loader, one (1) SinoTruk Self-Loading Truck, and two (2) SinoTruk Mini Dump Trucks. These units are set to bolster operations and maintenance efforts in key irrigation systems in southern Cebu, particularly the Basak Communal Irrigation System (CIS) and Monteverde Small Irrigation Project (SIP) in Samboan, Cebu.
The blessing ceremony was officiated by Rev. Fr. Wenefredo Q. Cueva, who prayed for the safety of all personnel involved in the operation of the machines and for the success of the agency’s continuing efforts to support Filipino farmers.
Leading the ceremonial activity were NIA Cebu officials headed by Engr. Maritez I. Soria, Acting Division Manager of NIA-BCSIMO.
“We thank the NIA Central Office for this timely support,” said Engr. Soria. “These equipment will significantly enhance our ability to conduct canal desilting, hauling of materials, and other maintenance activities, especially in remote areas where access and response time are critical.”
The provision of heavy equipment reflects the Central Office’s commitment to empowering field offices and ensuring the efficient implementation of irrigation projects, aligned with the agency’s mandate to contribute to national food security and improved agricultural productivity.
With the deployment of these machines, NIA Cebu is better positioned to carry out its work plans more effectively, ensuring reliable irrigation services for farming communities in the province.
