
The National Irrigation Administration- Region 7 (NIA-R7) joins the nationwide NIA Synchronized Tree Planting Activity and transplanted a total of 4,073 seedlings varying from hardwood, bamboo, and fruit-bearing trees in several watersheds in the provinces of Bohol, Cebu, and Negros Oriental.
This nationwide tree-planting activity with the theme “Trees Water Life 2022” is in support of the Government’s National Greening Program (NGP) and serves as NIA's post-celebration affair for its 59th Founding Anniversary.
NIA-7 employees and Irrigators’ Associations’ (IAs) farmer-members worked together to preserve the watershed, mitigate the impact of climate change, and hopefully replace the fallen trees in areas battered by Typhoon Odette last December 2021.
The Bohol Integrated Irrigation System (BIIS), NIA 7 Regional Office, and BIIS IAs planted a total of 2, 973 fruit-bearing trees in the province of Bohol: 744 seedlings in Talibon Small Reservoir Irrigation System (SRIS), 327 seedlings in Capayas Irrigation System (IS) in Ubay, 713 seedlings in Bayongan IS San Miguel, and 1,178 seedlings in Malinao IS in Pilar, Bohol.
While a total of 500 seedlings (250 fruit-bearing and 250 hardwood) were planted in Lunas, Asturias, Cebu by the Cebu Office.
Bohol-Siquijor Office planted a total of 300 seedlings (150 Acacia mangiums and 150 jackfruits) at the watershed area of the Ilaya Small Reservoir Irrigations System in Ubay, Bohol.
Negros Oriental Satellite Office also planted 300 Mahogany seedlings in Dauin, Negros Oriental.
Variety of seedlings planted include rambutan, lansones, santol, guyabano, guava, coffee, water apple, bamboo plantings, and hardwood.
