The National Irrigation Administration-Region 7 (NIA-R7) facilitated an Oyster Mushroom Production Training for Bakinayao Farmers Irrigators’ Association in Calape, Bohol in collaboration with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority-Provincial Training Center of Tubigon (TESDA-PTC Tubigon).

This initiative is in line with NIA-7’s vision to improve the farmers’ quality of life by elevating their agricultural productivity and increasing farmers’ income.

TESDA-Tubigon headed by Center Administrator Maria Levy A. Yosoya, facilitated the 2 batches of Mushroom Production Trainings on June 16-17, 2022, and July 5-6, 2022 both held in Bentig Barangay Hall, Calape, Bohol.

This training covers an introduction to mushrooms: their health advantages, and several methods for mushroom cultivation and production. Hands-on activities include preparation of grain culture and rice straw as substrate, applying cultivation techniques, harvesting, post-harvesting, packaging, and storing of mushrooms, and even making mushroom sisig.

The 2-day skills training aims to teach farmers about the utilization of agricultural wastes such as rice straw, cultivate and produce edible mushrooms in rural areas, and increase farmers’ household income.
