ILAYA DAM EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS AND RESPONSE COORDINATION MEETING

To strengthen disaster readiness, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Region VII held a coordination meeting today, July 25, at the BCSIMO Bohol Office Strategy Room in Dao, Tagbilaran City, focusing on the Ilaya Dam Emergency Action Plan (EAP).

The meeting, led by Acting Regional Manager Engr. Antonio B. Gujeling and BCSIMO Bohol-Siquijor IMO ECOS Chief Evaristo R. Borja, brought together disaster management officers including PDRRMO-TARSIER 117’s Arjay B. Migriño, Candijay MDRRMO Jeryl Lacang-Fuentes, and Alicia MDRRMO Florence C. Junio. Joining virtually were OCD Region VII’s Engr. Ver Neil B. Balaba and Mabini MDRRMO Elsie Mae Tuyor.

Discussions covered the dam’s status, simulation of inundation maps for dam break scenarios, alert levels, contingency planning, emergency roles, and community coordination. NIA emphasized that the activity reflects its proactive stance in ensuring the safety of downstream communities and the integrity of Ilaya Dam.

“This meeting shows the proactive stand of NIA to ensure the safety of our communities,” ARM Gujeling stated. “We are grateful for your presence and commitment as key partners in protecting both lives and the integrity of Ilaya Dam.”

With the multi-stakeholder coordination, NIA Region VII aims to strengthen the operationalization of the Ilaya Dam’s Emergency Action Plan.
